Bennett Urges Intl Law-Based Response to Pakistan’s Security Concerns
DID Press: Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, has expressed concern over reports of civilian casualties resulting from recent Pakistani airstrikes in eastern Afghanistan.

Reacting to the reported incidents, Bennett said he was deeply troubled by the deaths and injuries of civilians, particularly women and children, in the provinces of Paktia Province, Paktika Province and Kunar Province.
He extended his condolences to the families of those affected and stressed that Pakistan’s security concerns should be addressed in accordance with international law.
Bennett also called on all parties to exercise restraint and emphasized the importance of protecting civilians during security operations.
The UN expert further underscored the need for accountability and urged an investigation into the reported incidents and any alleged violations.
His remarks come amid heightened tensions and cross-border military operations in eastern Afghanistan, where concerns have grown over the impact of ongoing security actions on civilian populations.
