DID Press: A Pakistani security research institute has reported a 16% decline in violence during June 2026 compared with the previous month, while warning that the country’s security situation remains fragile following several deadly suicide attacks.

According to a new report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, 262 people were killed in security-related incidents across Pakistan in June 2026, despite an overall decline in militant violence.
The report states that the fatalities included 184 militants, 52 civilians, and 26 security personnel. It also recorded injuries to 63 civilians, 50 security personnel, 18 members of local peace committees, and three militants.
Compared with May, deaths among security forces fell by 62%, civilian fatalities declined by 27%, and militant deaths dropped by 32%. The number of people injured across all categories also decreased significantly, while reported kidnapping cases fell by 50%, from 54 to 27. Authorities additionally arrested 27 individuals on terrorism-related charges.
Although the total number of attacks dropped from 128 to 108, high-casualty incidents continued. One of the deadliest was a suicide bombing on 27 June targeting a Rangers base in Karachi, which killed three security personnel.
Regionally, Balochistan recorded the largest improvement, with attacks falling by 31%. Violence also declined in the former tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while attacks increased in other parts of the province and in Sindh. Only one attack was reported in Punjab, and no terrorist incidents were recorded in Islamabad, Pakistan-administered Kashmir, or Gilgit-Baltistan.
The report adds that 2,166 people have been killed and 1,137 injured in terrorism-related incidents across Pakistan during the first six months of 2026.
Pakistan has continued to accuse the Taliban authorities in Afghanistan and India of contributing to insecurity, allegations that both Kabul and New Delhi have rejected.
