US Presbyterian Church Calls Gaza War “Genocide”

DID Press: General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) has overwhelmingly passed a resolution describing Israel’s war in Gaza as “genocide” and urging the US Congress to impose an arms embargo on Israel.

The resolution was approved with 454 votes in favor and 15 against. It also calls on church members to boycott Israeli goods linked to the war.

During the session, Palestinian-American pastor Foad Abu Aqel, a former moderator of the church, said schools, universities, hospitals, mosques, and churches in Gaza have been destroyed with “American weapons and dollars,” stressing that silence is no longer acceptable.

The assembly also endorsed, by 447 votes to 21, a statement from the Community of Palestinian Christians issued in November 2025, which calls for intensified boycotts, divestment, and sanctions against Israel.

The decisions follow a recent vote by the church to divest from companies such as Palantir and GE Aerospace, which have faced criticism over ties with the Israeli military.

The Presbyterian Church (USA) has taken critical positions on Israeli policies in the Palestinian territories since 2004, including support for boycott and divestment measures.
