$5.4M Salt Mining Deal Signed in Herat

DID Press: A contract for the extraction of Block Four of the Namaksar salt mine in Ghoryan district of Herat province has been signed between the Taliban-run Ministry of Mines and Petroleum and a private company, involving an investment of over $5.4 million over a 15-year period.

According to the agreement, the total investment amounts to $5,490,950, with the project set to run for 15 years.

Hedayatullah Badri stated during the signing ceremony that the royalty rate for the mine has been set at 1,500 Afghanis per ton. He added that the contracting company is obliged to operate in accordance with Afghanistan’s mining law, applicable regulations, and contractual obligations.

The agreement also requires the company to allocate $350,000 toward social services and public welfare projects.

Officials from the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum described the deal as an important step toward resource extraction, attracting investment, creating job opportunities, and supporting economic development in Herat province.
