Kazakhstan Plans Trade Terminal at Iran’s Bandar Abbas

DID Press: Kazakhstan is planning to establish a commercial terminal at Iran’s Bandar Abbas port through private-sector investment, aiming to secure direct access to markets in India, East Africa, Gulf countries and Southeast Asia.

Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin said during a joint parliamentary session that the terminal will be built on around 15 hectares of land and will not require government funding. He added that the land lease agreement is in its final stages.

According to Zhumangarin, Kazakh goods will be transported from Aktau through existing railway routes, passing via Turkmenistan before reaching Bandar Abbas.

He also expressed hope that a reduction in tensions between the United States and Iran would lead to fewer sanctions on Tehran and create new opportunities for expanded economic cooperation.

Alongside this project, Kazakhstan continues to pursue the construction of the Trans-Afghan railway, which aims to provide access to deep-water ports in Pakistan.

The Kazakh official said recent disruptions to trade routes caused by tensions between Washington and Tehran have further highlighted the importance of developing alternative transit corridors.
