Former Pakistani Senator Says Islamabad’s Afghanistan Policy Has Failed

DID Press: Former Pakistani senator Afrasiab Khattak has criticized Islamabad’s decades-long policy toward Afghanistan, saying the approach of the past five decades has failed to achieve its intended objectives and requires a fundamental review.

Khattak said policies based on intervention and security-driven approaches have not contributed to stability in Afghanistan and have also created negative consequences for Pakistan itself.

He argued that Pakistan should reconsider its approach toward Afghanistan and shift from geopolitical competition to greater cooperation, mutual respect, and stronger political and economic relations between the two countries.

The former senator emphasized that lasting regional peace and security can only be achieved through dialogue, regional cooperation, and respect for national sovereignty.
