TAPI Pipeline Reaches Major Construction Milestone in Afghanistan

DID Press: Construction of the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) gas pipeline has reached a new milestone in western Afghanistan, with more than two-thirds of the route in Herat Province now fitted with pipeline infrastructure, according to Taliban authorities.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said that 127 km of the project’s 153-km route through Herat has been prepared, while 106 km of pipeline has already been laid.

The ministry added that 36 km of the pipeline has been buried underground, with construction continuing on the remaining sections.

Officials also said negotiations are ongoing to secure $420 million in investment for the development of Herat’s gas distribution network, a project aimed at expanding access to natural gas for industrial and residential consumers.

The TAPI pipeline is one of the region’s largest energy infrastructure projects, designed to transport natural gas from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India, with the goal of strengthening regional energy connectivity and economic cooperation.
