Iran Sends Humanitarian Aid to Flood-Hit Nuristan

DID Press: Iran has delivered a humanitarian aid convoy to Afghanistan’s flood-stricken Nuristan province, where thousands of residents are facing acute shortages of food, clean water and emergency shelter following devastating floods.

According to the Iranian Embassy in Kabul, the aid convoy arrived in Parun, the capital of Nuristan, on Thursday, carrying food supplies including flour and cooking oil for families affected by the recent flooding. The assistance is expected to be distributed to households that lost homes, livelihoods and property in the disaster.

The shipment comes as severe flooding has left dozens of people dead or missing and caused widespread destruction across the province, damaging homes, roads, public infrastructure and commercial facilities.

The United Nations has previously warned that communities in Nuristan are facing critical shortages of food, safe drinking water and emergency shelter, while the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has urged an accelerated humanitarian response to support affected families.

The Iranian aid delivery comes as Afghanistan continues to grapple with overlapping humanitarian challenges caused by floods, earthquakes and prolonged drought, compounding widespread poverty and increasing the need for international assistance.
