UN Secretary-General Visits Damascus for High-Level Talks

DID Press: UN Secretary-General António Guterres has arrived in Damascus at the head of a high-level delegation for talks with senior Syrian officials on the country’s political developments and worsening humanitarian situation.

According to diplomatic sources, the visit will focus on humanitarian assistance, the situation of displaced people, and efforts to reduce internal tensions and advance political dialogue.

The trip comes as international organizations and human rights groups continue to report widespread human rights violations in Syria, including arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, torture in detention facilities, and severe restrictions on freedom of expression and civil society activities.

Rights organizations say ongoing political repression and security crackdowns in government-controlled areas remain among the major obstacles to resolving Syria’s prolonged crisis and improving humanitarian conditions.
