Iran to Launch Dedicated Lanes at Dogharoon Border to Speed Truck Crossings

DID Press: Iranian authorities have announced plans to introduce dedicated freight lanes at the Dogharoon border crossing to reduce long delays for trucks returning from Afghanistan and improve cross-border trade and transit.

Hossein Jamshidi, governor of Taybad County, said some Iranian trucks currently face waiting periods of up to 20 days before returning from Afghanistan. To address the problem, authorities plan to establish separate lanes for cargo vehicles traveling from Herat and Islam Qala toward the Dogharoon border crossing.

Jamshidi said the measure is intended to separate traffic flows, increase the border terminal’s capacity to process freight vehicles, reduce congestion, and accelerate the entry of Iranian trucks into the country.

He also stressed the importance of continued border cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan’s Taliban administration, noting that the implementation of a six-party transport and transit agreement could help resolve many existing logistical challenges, lower transportation costs, facilitate drivers’ movement, and speed up cargo deliveries.

Describing Dogharoon as one of Iran’s most important commercial gateways with Afghanistan, Jamshidi said smoother truck movement would boost bilateral trade, increase transit volumes, and strengthen economic cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

He expressed hope that continued coordination between border authorities would significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks and improve the efficiency of international freight transport in the near future.
