Taliban Holds Regional Security Talks in Northwest Afghanistan

DID Press: Senior Taliban officials have held a regional security coordination meeting in northwestern Afghanistan, bringing together provincial governors, police chiefs, intelligence officials, and military court representatives to review the security situation and strengthen coordination among security institutions.

The meeting, chaired by Mohammad Yousuf Wafa, the Taliban governor of Balkh Province, marked the eighth periodic gathering of senior Taliban officials responsible for the northwestern region.

According to Taliban officials, discussions focused on the security situation in the provinces of Balkh, Sar-e Pol, Jawzjan, Faryab, and Samangan, as well as efforts to improve coordination between the group’s security and intelligence agencies.

Participants emphasized the importance of maintaining cohesion within the Taliban’s security structure. Hafizullah Mohammadi, head of the military court for the northern zone, warned that “any gap in coordination could create further challenges.”

Analysts say northwestern Afghanistan remains strategically important for the Taliban due to the presence of armed opposition groups, as well as persistent challenges including ethnic tensions, narcotics trafficking, and local grievances.
