DID Press: Just one in three Americans support the continuation of the war with Iran, while a majority believe President Donald Trump has failed to clearly explain the objectives of the conflict, according to the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The online survey, conducted between July 25 and 27 among 1,246 U.S. adults, found that 69% of respondents said Trump had not adequately articulated the purpose of U.S. military involvement in Iran. The poll also showed that public support for the conflict has remained below 40% since military operations began on February 28, marking its lowest level to date and significantly below public backing seen during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
The survey also indicated shifting political sentiment ahead of the U.S. midterm elections, with independent voters favoring Democratic candidates over Republicans by 36% to 20%.
Responding to the poll, the White House said President Trump does not base his decisions on public opinion surveys and remains focused on preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
