DID Press: Pakistan’s Balochistan province is facing a growing security crisis as authorities impose curfews in parts of the region following a surge in militant attacks, with reports of killings, kidnappings, and attacks on transport vehicles.
Local officials announced a curfew in Noshki district from 8 p.m. Tuesday until July 31, banning movement and gatherings without official permission. Noshki became the second area after Mastung to be placed under heightened security measures in recent days.
Meanwhile, a series of armed incidents has been reported across several districts of the province. In Barkhan, senior police commander Murad Bugti was killed in an ambush by unidentified armed men, while another police officer accompanying him was injured. Security forces have launched a major search operation in the area.
In Turbat, armed individuals reportedly blocked a road and kidnapped seven non-local workers. One of the workers was killed, while six others were taken to an unknown location. In Khuzdar, four employees of a water supply project, including the project manager, were also abducted.
In Chagai, unidentified gunmen attacked a convoy and set fire to several fuel tankers and commercial trucks. A rice shipment carried by two trucks was also reportedly looted on the Dalbandin route. Separately, a security forces post in southern Noshki came under attack, but the attackers withdrew following a response from security personnel.
Balochistan government officials have blamed the attacks on what they described as “anti-national elements linked to foreign services” and said military and security operations will continue until affected areas are cleared.
