Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan Move to Deepen Political and Trade Ties

DID Press: Taliban and Kyrgyz officials have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral political, economic and transit cooperation during high-level talks in Bishkek, as both sides seek closer regional engagement.

According to the Taliban embassy in Bishkek, Dr. Abdul Hai Qanit, Director-General for Political Affairs at the Taliban Foreign Ministry, met with Mirbek Bakytovich, Director of the Fourth Political Department at Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Ministry. Abdul Shakoor Haqqani, the Taliban’s acting ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, also attended the meeting.

The two sides discussed strengthening political and consular relations, expanding trade and transit cooperation, and enhancing collaboration in other areas of mutual interest. Officials emphasized the importance of maintaining political engagement and advancing practical cooperation across multiple sectors.

The meeting comes as the Taliban administration and Central Asian countries have stepped up efforts in recent months to deepen economic, commercial and transit partnerships, with Kabul seeking to strengthen its role in regional connectivity corridors.
