DID Press: Yemen’s armed forces have announced that they targeted the Saudi oil tanker “Wafa” with ballistic missiles in the northern Red Sea near Yanbu, as part of what they describe as a “blockade for blockade” strategy. The group said the latest operation brings the number of Saudi tankers targeted since July 22 to eight, while 29 vessels have allegedly been forced to abandon their routes.
In a statement, Yemen’s armed forces said the operation was carried out as part of a decision to restrict Saudi maritime movement and to reinforce the “blockade for blockade” equation. The statement claimed the tanker was struck with “high precision” by several ballistic missiles.
According to the statement, the number of Saudi oil tankers targeted since the beginning of the maritime restrictions on July 22 has reached eight vessels. It added that 29 tankers in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea had been prevented from continuing their journeys and forced to return.
The statement further claimed that Yemen’s actions in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait had pushed Saudi Arabia to redirect its oil tanker routes toward the northern Red Sea. Yemen’s armed forces said operations against Saudi-linked tankers in the area would continue and expand, aiming to block what they called “all maritime routes” used by Saudi Arabia.
