TTP Leader Noor Wali Mehsud Seen With Anti-Drone Jamming Device

DID Press: Noor Wali Mehsud, leader of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and one of Pakistan’s most wanted militants, has appeared in a newly released propaganda video showing him in a mountainous area, apparently intended to suggest that he is operating inside Pakistan.

In the video, a man standing alongside Mehsud is seen carrying a large backpack fitted with four antennas. Experts believe the equipment could be a portable radio-frequency jammer designed to counter drones, although its exact type and model have not been independently verified.

A user on X claimed that the device was manufactured in China and was being carried by one of Mehsud’s bodyguards. The BBC, however, was unable to independently verify the claim.

Experts say such devices can disrupt radio communications between a drone and its operator, making it difficult to control small commercial drones, including quadcopters.

The footage comes amid increased use of small drones in border areas between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Some reports also indicate that Chinese-made signal-jamming equipment is available on black markets, with the device shown in the video reportedly priced at around 300,000 to 400,000 Pakistani rupees on social media.

The source of the equipment and how the TTP obtained it remain unclear. Pakistani officials have previously claimed that some military equipment left behind following the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan has eventually reached armed groups, including the TTP.
