One Dies in Two Suicide Attempts in Kandahar

DID Press: Local sources in Kandahar say one young man has died and another survived after receiving medical treatment following two separate suicide attempts in Kandahar city.

According to the sources, one of the incidents occurred on Saturday in the city’s Eighth District, where a young man identified as “Jan” died following a suicide attempt.

Sources said the young man had reportedly been unemployed for some time and was facing financial difficulties.

On the same day, two people who had attempted suicide were taken to Kandahar’s public hospital. A medical source said one of them died, while the other survived after receiving treatment.

The source added that both individuals had attempted suicide by ingesting poisonous substances.

The incidents come amid growing concerns in Afghanistan over psychological distress and suicide attempts among young people, with unemployment, poverty and economic hardship cited among the factors contributing to increasing pressure on vulnerable communities.
