Taliban Said to Seek Ashraf Ghani’s Return Through His Uncle

DID Press: Abdul Qayum Kochi, uncle of former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, claims the Taliban have tasked him with contacting Ghani and encouraging him to return to Afghanistan.

Kochi said the assignment followed recent remarks by Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, who invited Ghani to return to the country. He claimed Taliban officials had specifically asked him to speak with Ghani about his possible return.

The Taliban have not publicly commented on Kochi’s claims. However, the reported move could indicate that efforts to bring former Afghan political figures and officials back into the country are entering a more serious phase.

The development comes amid growing public dissatisfaction with the Taliban administration, increasing international pressure and continued activity by armed opposition groups. The Taliban may seek to bring some former political figures back to Afghanistan as part of efforts to manage domestic discontent and broaden its political outreach.
