DID Press: US social media users have mocked President Donald Trump’s remarks about the status of the Strait of Hormuz, contrasting his claim that the strategic waterway remains open with what they describe as the realities facing commercial shipping.
One user pointed to insurance concerns and the risks facing vessels, writing that when no ships are passing through the strait because of insurance considerations, “in English, we call that: the strait is closed.”
The user added sarcastically that, to see this reality, “you first have to open Trump’s eyes.”
The comments came amid continued debate over the security and navigational status of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime chokepoints and a major route for global energy shipments.
