DID Press: Media reports say Islamic State has issued a fresh threat against Spain, warning of what it described as “imminent attacks” targeting Spanish interests and saying Madrid should expect retaliatory actions.
The threat comes as Spain has increased security cooperation with the European Union and NATO in recent months and taken part in counterterrorism operations in North Africa and the Mediterranean.
Analysts say the threat may be aimed at increasing psychological pressure on the Spanish government and portraying the country’s military presence in the region as increasingly costly.Spanish authorities have not issued an official response to the reported threat.
Security sources in Madrid, however, said the country’s terrorism alert level would remain at a “high” level.
