DID Press: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has criticized US President Donald Trump’s approach to the war with Russia, saying he feels Washington has betrayed Kyiv and sided with Moscow.

The remarks come amid reports that the United States has proposed unfreezing part of Russia’s frozen sovereign assets and transferring the funds to a financial entity overseen by Washington. The proposal, reportedly presented during talks in Miami, has faced opposition from European representatives.
Zelensky made his comments during a visit to London. His criticism reportedly centres on concerns over the easing of some restrictions on Russian fuel exports while Moscow continues attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. He has also expressed doubts about the effectiveness of efforts to establish an energy ceasefire.
According to the Financial Times, US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner presented the proposal to release some of Russia’s frozen sovereign assets during discussions in Miami involving Ukrainian and European officials. The plan was intended to help revive negotiations aimed at ending the war, but European representatives opposed the proposal, citing concerns over relinquishing control of the assets or returning any portion to Moscow.
Western countries froze approximately €260 billion in Russian sovereign assets after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Reuters reported that it could not independently verify the latest US proposal.
