Taliban Minister Warns Against Return to Cycle of War in Afghanistan

DID Press: Afghanistan’s Taliban minister for borders, tribes and ethnic affairs has warned that the country should not be dragged back into a cycle of war and insecurity, urging opponents of the group to choose peace and cooperation instead of continued conflict.

Noorullah Noori, the Taliban’s minister for borders, tribes and ethnic affairs, referred to Afghanistan’s decades of war and said the Afghan people were exhausted by continued fighting. He warned that a return to conflict could have severe consequences for the population.

Noori called on Taliban opponents to refrain from fighting, propaganda and actions that, in his view, contribute to insecurity, and urged them to seek non-military ways to address Afghanistan’s problems.

He also stressed that opponents should not push Afghanistan back into war and instability in an effort to gain support from foreign countries.
