Kajaki Dam’s Second Phase 96% Complete, Taliban Say

DID Press: Afghanistan’s Taliban-run Ministry of Water and Energy has announced that the second phase of the Kajaki hydropower dam project in Helmand province is 96% complete and is expected to be finished and commissioned in the near future.

The Kajaki Dam is built on the Helmand River in Kajaki district and is one of Afghanistan’s key infrastructure facilities for hydropower generation, water resource management and irrigation of agricultural land.

Once the second phase is completed, the project is expected to increase electricity supplies to Helmand and neighbouring provinces. Other anticipated benefits include expanded irrigation capacity, higher agricultural production, job creation and growth in industrial activity.
