Sources say the sharp increase in fuel prices has forced many Afghans to reduce their consumption in an effort to manage rising daily expenses.

Fuel vendors in southern Afghanistan also report a significant decline in sales, saying reduced purchasing power has affected their revenues and business activity.

Recent reports indicate that petrol prices have surpassed 80 afghanis per litre in some markets.

Fuel prices had already been rising in Kabul and other parts of Afghanistan in recent months. The latest surge has fueled concerns over higher transportation costs and further increases in the cost of living.
