Islamabad Sets Conditions for Dialogue With Taliban

DID Press: Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Islamabad is ready to engage with the Taliban on counterterrorism, but only if Kabul takes practical and tangible measures to address Pakistan’s security concerns.

Taher Andrabi, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, said any dialogue mechanism must go beyond promises and assurances and be accompanied by concrete action. He stressed that the Taliban government must ensure Afghan territory is not used for terrorist activities against Pakistan.

The statement came after Taliban Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani called for the establishment of a dialogue mechanism between the two sides.

Islamabad’s position indicates that it is prepared to pursue talks with the Taliban only within a framework of verifiable actions and counterterrorism commitments, rather than relying solely on political assurances.
