Britain Updates Sanctions Records for Sirajuddin and Jalaluddin Haqqani

DID Press: Britain has updated the identifying information of Sirajuddin Haqqani and the late Jalaluddin Haqqani in its Afghanistan sanctions list, while sanctions against Sirajuddin Haqqani remain in force.

The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office updated records relating to the two figures, including personal and identifying details. The update does not mean that Sirajuddin Haqqani has been removed from the sanctions list, and financial restrictions and a travel ban against him remain in place.

Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s interior minister and leader of the Haqqani Network, has been subject to United Nations sanctions since 2007. Britain has also imposed Afghanistan-related sanctions against him, including an asset freeze and travel restrictions.

The updated entry includes additional identifying details for Sirajuddin Haqqani, such as information related to his place and date of birth, physical description, passport details, and background.Jalaluddin Haqqani, the founder of the Haqqani Network and Sirajuddin’s father, who died in 2018, was also included in the updated records, which refer to reports of his death in September of that year.

The move follows a recent update by the United Nations Security Council to the identifying information of several senior Taliban figures, including Sirajuddin Haqqani.
