DID Press: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed for Tashkent on a state visit to Uzbekistan, where he is scheduled to hold talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev aimed at further strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The two leaders are expected to review cooperation in trade and investment, defence, digital connectivity, energy, education and people-to-people exchanges, while also discussing the future direction of bilateral relations.
During his visit to Tashkent, Modi is also scheduled to visit the Shastri Memorial and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.
Visit to Kyrgyzstan
Following his visit to Uzbekistan, Modi will travel to Bishkek at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov to attend the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, which coincides with the organisation’s 25th anniversary.
Modi said India, which has been a full member of the SCO since 2017, would promote its regional vision based on “Security, Connectivity and Opportunity.” He also stressed cooperation among member states to build a region free from terrorism, separatism and extremism.
The Indian prime minister is also expected to meet President Japarov and other SCO leaders and attend the opening ceremony of the Sixth World Nomad Games.
Modi said he was confident the trip would strengthen India’s strategic partnerships in Central Asia, deepen its historical and civilizational ties with the region, and advance shared efforts toward peace, stability and prosperity.
