500-Kilogram Bomb Left From War Defused in Kabul

DID Press: Technical teams from Afghanistan’s Disaster Management Preparedness Authority have discovered and safely neutralized three pieces of unexploded ordnance in Farza and Mir Bacha Kot districts of Kabul province, including a 500-kilogram bomb.

The authority said in a statement on Wednesday that the recovered items consisted of two mortar rounds and one 500-kilogram bomb. The ordnance was identified and technically assessed before specialist clearance teams rendered the items safe.

The operation was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to locate and clear mines and unexploded ordnance and reduce the risks they pose to communities across Afghanistan. Explosive ordnance disposal teams are responsible for identifying, assessing, rendering safe and disposing of unexploded weapons.

Afghanistan continues to face a significant threat from explosive remnants of war. According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, data from the Directorate of Mine Action Coordination recorded 217 explosive-contamination incidents in 2025, resulting in 92 deaths and 375 injuries.

Authorities urged residents in contaminated areas not to approach or touch mines, unexploded ordnance or other suspicious objects and to immediately notify the relevant authorities.
