DID Press: British Prime Minister Andy Burnham is considering a request from Saudi Arabia for military and diplomatic support amid the escalating conflict in Yemen, according to Bloomberg.
Riyadh has asked London for assistance in two areas: operational support for Saudi forces to prevent Houthi forces from advancing toward the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and help protecting Saudi oil facilities from missile and drone attacks.
According to the report, Burnham has agreed to deploy British military advisers to Saudi Arabia, but has not yet committed to sending additional combat troops or warships.
The reported request comes as Houthi forces have advanced toward strategic areas around Bab el-Mandeb, raising concerns over shipping and Saudi oil-export routes.
