DID Press: Saudi Arabia issued emergency alerts in Mecca, Jeddah and Taif on Tuesday amid reports of possible attacks, as tensions with Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi forces continue to escalate. Saudi Civil Defence later said the immediate threat had subsided.
Reports said residents in Mecca and Jeddah heard several explosions as warning sirens were activated in the affected areas. Saudi authorities have not provided a detailed public account of the source of the explosions or confirmed specific damage linked to the incidents.
The alerts came amid a broader escalation between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, who have intensified missile and drone attacks against Saudi territory in recent days. Reuters reported that Houthi attacks have targeted Saudi military and energy infrastructure.
Saudi Civil Defence later announced that the danger had passed in several affected locations, including Jeddah and Taif, as well as Abha, Jazan, AlUla and Yanbu.
The developments have heightened concerns over the possibility of further escalation in the region, particularly given the potential impact of attacks on Saudi cities and energy infrastructure.
