DID Press: Mohammad Qasim Azzam, editor-in-chief of Afghanistan’s state-run Hewad newspaper, has urged Saudi authorities to reconsider their policies following a missile warning reported in Mecca.
Azzam described the reported missile warning in the holy city as “bitter and distressing,” expressing sadness over the sound of such an alert in a city of importance to Muslims.
In a post on X, Azzam referred to Mecca’s religious significance and said hearing a missile warning there had caused deep concern and sorrow.
He also called on Saudi officials to review their policies and warned of the consequences of continuing them. His comments came after a missile alert was reported in Mecca amid reports of attacks targeting areas in southern Saudi Arabia. Recent reports have also said Saudi air defenses intercepted a Houthi drone near Mecca.
Azzam is the editor-in-chief of Hewad, a newspaper controlled by the Taliban.
