DID Press: Yahya Saree, spokesman for Yemen’s Houthi (Ansarullah) movement, said the group had carried out two military operations targeting sites in Saudi Arabia with ballistic missiles and drones.
Saree said the first operation targeted facilities belonging to Saudi oil giant Saudi Aramco in Yanbu with dozens of ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. He claimed the attack caused extensive fires and significant damage. These claims have not been independently verified.
In the second operation, Saree said the Khamis Mushait air base was targeted with a number of ballistic missiles, describing the strikes as “accurate.”
The Houthi spokesman said attacks against targets deep inside Saudi territory would continue and that Saudi military concentrations would remain targets under what he called the group’s “siege-for-siege equation.”
Saree said the operations would continue until attacks on Yemen stop and what the Houthis describe as the blockade on Yemen is lifted.
He also claimed that Saudi Arabia had carried out more than 450 airstrikes against Yemen during the past week, targeting most of the country’s provinces. The figure is a Houthi claim and has not been independently verified.
The latest statements come amid a sharp escalation in fighting between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia. Reuters reported on September 16 that Saudi forces had intensified airstrikes in Yemen, while the Houthis have continued missile and drone attacks against southern Saudi cities.
Recent Houthi attacks have included claims targeting Abha, Khamis Mushait and Jazan with ballistic missiles and drones. Saudi authorities have reported interceptions of some incoming projectiles, while casualties and damage have varied by incident.
