OIC Reaffirms Continued Support for Afghanistan People

DID Press: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Afghanistan held a meeting on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York to discuss the latest humanitarian and development situation in Afghanistan and ways to strengthen the international response to the country’s needs.

Ismail Ould Sheikh Ahmed, Secretary-General of the OIC, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting the people of Afghanistan.

He said OIC’s approach is based on engagement and practical cooperation with Afghanistan’s de facto authorities, with the aim of serving the interests of the Afghanistan people and ensuring the continuation of humanitarian activities.

OIC Secretary-General also highlighted the organization’s efforts through its representation and field office in Kabul, particularly in areas including girls’ education, healthcare and strengthening social cohesion.

OIC Contact Group on Afghanistan emphasized the importance of continued international efforts to address the country’s humanitarian situation and support development initiatives in Afghanistan.
