DID Press: Fifty percent of Americans now say they strongly disapprove of U.S. President Donald Trump’s job performance, the highest level recorded for a president at this stage before a midterm election, according to CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten.
Enten said the previous record was Trump’s 45% strongly disapprove rating before the 2018 midterm elections. Before that, former President George W. Bush held the record at 41% ahead of the 2006 midterms.
Trump’s strong-approval figure currently stands at 18%, compared with 27% for Trump at the same point in 2018 and an average of 27% for presidents heading into midterm elections, according to the CNN analysis.
Among independent voters, 56% said they strongly disapprove of Trump’s performance, while only 9% said they strongly approve.
