DID Press: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned that what he described as increasingly unpredictable actions by Western countries and their growing reliance on force could put the lives and well-being of millions or even billions of people at risk.
Speaking during the general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Lavrov said the “Western minority” was acting in ways that threaten global stability and security. The 81st General Assembly high-level week is being held from Sept. 18 to 28, with the general debate taking place from Sept. 22 to 28.
Lavrov said the increasing use of force and what he described as irresponsible conduct could have consequences extending beyond the interests of the countries directly involved, affecting the lives and welfare of people around the world.
His remarks come amid continued disputes between Russia and Western countries over international security and other geopolitical issues. Lavrov has repeatedly criticized Western policies at the UN, while Western governments have sharply criticized Russia over its foreign policy and military actions. The latest remarks should therefore be understood as the Russian government’s position.
