UN Records 280 Israeli Incursions Into Syria in September

DID Press: UN Human Rights Office has documented approximately 280 incidents involving armed Israeli incursions into Syrian territory during September 2026, the highest monthly figure recorded since the beginning of the year.

The office expressed concern over the continuing impact of Israeli military operations on civilians in southern Syria. According to UN Human Rights Office spokesperson Shabia Mantoo, the incidents were documented through open-source monitoring.

The reported incidents included raids on homes, restrictions on freedom of movement, harassment and intimidation of civilians, arbitrary detentions, and the destruction of crops and other sources of livelihood.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk called on Israeli authorities to stop actions that harass or intimidate Syrian civilians and stressed the need to respect international human rights and humanitarian law.

The UN office also said that available information indicated at least 49 Syrians remained in Israeli custody. However, it cautioned that it had not independently verified a comprehensive, up-to-date total of detainees. Released detainees and other sources have also reported prolonged detention and alleged torture and ill-treatment.
