Iran’s Embassy in Baghdad Responds to Rubio’s Remarks on the Achaemenid Empire

DID Press: Iran’s Embassy in Baghdad has responded to remarks by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio concerning the Achaemenid Empire, highlighting Iran’s ancient history and its contribution to human civilization.

In a statement, the embassy said Iran was “not merely a name on the map” but an ancient civilization that had helped shape history and enrich humanity’s cultural heritage. It pointed to Iran’s archaeological remains and inscriptions, some dating back thousands of years, as evidence of the country’s historical legacy.

The embassy said Iran’s ancient history could not be erased by claims or distorted by what it described as falsehoods. It added that Iranian civilization dates back more than 2,500 years, contrasting this with the United States, which has existed for less than 250 years.

The embassy also said that Iran’s history could not be distorted through selective narratives or that the country could be brought to its knees through military power. It cited the Cyrus Cylinder as evidence of a civilization whose place in human history was established centuries before the founding of the United States.
