New EU strategy for Afghanistan Approved

28 EU member states approved their new strategy about Afghanistan and vowed their support from the country in a joint statement.
Foreign ministers of EU member states adopted their new strategy for Afghanistan at a meeting in Luxembourg.

“The international community’s attention about Afghanistan is essential due to the fragile economic and security situation of the country and the obvious intention of Kabul in bringing fundamental reforms,” the EU statement said.
On the other hand, the EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said after the meeting that “Afghan people deserve peace and welfare. The EU stands beside the Afghans and will continue that. Development and stability in Afghanistan are not just for the benefit of Afghans, but also have advantages for the region and world.”

After the United States of America, the European Union has been a major military and financial contributor to Afghanistan for the past sixteen years.
