Karzai Calls for Reopening Afghanistan Schools, Universities to Girls
DID Press: Former Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai has called for the swift reopening of schools and universities to girls, stressing the importance of empowering girls and ensuring equal access to educational opportunities on the occasion of the International Day of the Girl.

In a message marking the day, Karzai said Afghanistan must focus more than ever on empowering girls to achieve growth and development. He said this goal could be realized by ensuring that girls have access to all educational opportunities and can continue their studies, acquire knowledge and professional skills, and serve their people and country.
Karzai emphasized that empowering girls alongside boys is a shared responsibility of human society and should not be neglected.
He expressed hope that schools and universities would reopen to girls as soon as possible, allowing them to contribute to Afghanistan’s progress through their knowledge, expertise and skills, and become a source of pride for the country internationally.
Referring to Afghanistan’s cultural heritage and the respect its people have traditionally shown toward women and girls, Karzai said Afghans have long highlighted the status, achievements and courage of their women and girls at national and international gatherings.
