Taliban Builds Underground Tunnels Near Kandahar After Pakistani Strikes
DID Press: Taliban have begun constructing underground facilities and tunnels near Kandahar in southern Afghanistan following Pakistani strikes, according to a report by Pamir Watch. The tunnels are reportedly intended to shelter Taliban forces in the event of a possible conflict with Pakistan.

Pamir Watch published a satellite image showing one of the tunnel sites. According to information released by the organization, construction began in 2025 following Pakistani attacks.A guest residence used by Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada is also located in the area, the report said.
Kandahar has become a major center of political influence within the Taliban in recent years. Analysts say some key decisions that were previously made in Kabul are now being taken in Kandahar, reflecting the city’s growing role in the group’s political structure and decision-making.
Underground tunnels have a long history of use in Afghanistan. During the war with the United States, the Taliban and other armed groups used tunnels to shelter from airstrikes, move fighters and store weapons. The reported construction near Kandahar comes amid heightened tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan.
It may indicate efforts by the group to strengthen its defensive preparations against the possibility of further conflict, although the intended use of the facilities has not been independently established here.
