DID Press: A UN Security Council session on the protection of civilians turned into a sharp diplomatic confrontation between India and Pakistan, with both sides trading accusations over violations of international law, civilian targeting, and alleged support for armed groups.

During the meeting, Indian Permanent Representative Harish P accused Pakistan of breaching humanitarian commitments and engaging in attacks on civilians, while also referring to a history of alleged abuses.
In response, Pakistan’s envoy Saima Saleem accused India of presenting itself as a victim while allegedly supporting insurgent groups, suppressing minorities, and violating international law in disputed regions.
The Pakistani representative further alleged that India supports armed groups including the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), and Majid Brigade, claiming these groups operate from Afghan territory against Pakistan.
She described recent Pakistani military operations inside Afghanistan as “precise and targeted,” insisting they were aimed only at militant infrastructure, while dismissing accusations from Taliban authorities and India as part of a “disinformation campaign.”
Kashmir also featured prominently in the exchange, with Pakistan reiterating that India cannot ignore the disputed status of the region and ongoing restrictions on self-determination for its population.
India, in turn, cited United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reporting and accused Pakistan of cross-border violence, including a deadly airstrike on a rehabilitation facility in Kabul during Ramadan.
New Delhi also alleged that hundreds of Afghan civilians were killed or injured in cross-border incidents in early 2026 and criticized Pakistan for forced deportations of Afghan refugees despite UN calls for restraint.
