IRGC: Tanker Catches Fire After Striking Two Mines in Strait of Hormuz

DID Press: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy says a “non-compliant supertanker” caught fire and came to a complete stop after striking two naval mines while attempting to pass through the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the IRGC Navy, the tanker was attempting to use what it described as an “illegal southern route” through the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, the IRGC warned that vessels violating announced security regulations for navigation through the strait could face similar consequences, stressing that compliance with its maritime transit instructions was mandatory.

The statement also urged shipping companies not to follow what it described as “provocations by the U.S. military,” warning them against putting their crews and cargoes at risk.
