Khalilzad Warns Reports of Pakistan Arming Afghans Could Further Strain Ties

DID Press: Zalmay Khalilzad, the former US special representative for Afghanistan, has warned that reports of Pakistan arming and recruiting Afghans to fight in Afghanistan and combat anti-Pakistan insurgents could further escalate tensions between Kabul and Islamabad.

In a post on the social media platform X, Khalilzad referred to multiple reports alleging that Pakistan was arming some Afghans to fight the Taliban in Afghanistan.

He added that more recent reports also suggested that the Pakistani military was recruiting Afghan nationals to fight anti-Pakistan insurgents.

Khalilzad warned that these developments could further deteriorate relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
