DID Press: US Vice President JD Vance has identified the war with Iran as one of the main factors behind the Republican Party’s defeat in the midterm congressional elections, saying many voters who supported Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election switched to the Democrats because of dissatisfaction with his administration’s performance.

Referring to a pre-election poll that showed Republicans trailing by 13 percentage points, Vance said voters had four main demands: an end to the war, action to address the cost of living and inflation, prioritising US national interests, and a reassessment of Washington’s relationship with the Israeli regime.
The Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom also reported that, in a memo following the Republican defeat, Vance stressed the need to change the priorities of the Trump administration, identifying a shift in relations with the Israeli regime as one of those priorities.
US President Donald Trump also acknowledged that the war against Iran played a role in the Republican Party’s defeat, although he continued to defend his decision to launch the military campaign.
