Mujahid Claims Afghanistan Is Free of IS, Accuses Pakistan of Supporting Militants

DID Press: Zabiullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, has claimed that Afghanistan has been completely cleared of Islamic State (IS) militants, while accusing Pakistan of fostering and supporting the group.

Speaking on Saturday, November 7th, Mujahid said Taliban forces had fought IS decisively and achieved significant results. He claimed that Afghan territory was now free of the group’s presence.Accusing Pakistan of providing an environment for IS activities, Mujahid said: “Pakistan has been a haven for some individuals who challenge regional security.”

He added that IS was currently operating from Pakistani territory and maintained some of its safe havens there.Mujahid further alleged that IS was being nurtured and supported in Pakistan. He reiterated that the Taliban would not allow Afghan territory to be used against any other country.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has previously rejected such accusations, describing claims that IS operates from or receives shelter in Pakistan as “completely baseless.” Islamabad has accused the Taliban of shifting responsibility for militant activity by blaming Pakistan for terrorism-related problems.

Pakistan also alleges that groups such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) have sanctuaries in Afghanistan and organise attacks against Pakistan from territory under Taliban control.

The exchange of accusations between Kabul and Islamabad over the presence and support of armed groups remains a major source of security tensions between the two countries.
