District Election not to be Held!

Afghanistan’s IEC said the District Council Elections may not be held on 20 October 2018.

Afghanistan’s IEC said the District Council Elections may not be held on 20 October 2018.
The IEC’s spokesman Sayed Hafizullah Hashimi told the media that the proposal to delay the district councils election was sent to the government in a letter.
“the election commission hopes the government will respond positively to their proposal to delay the district councils election,” Hashimi said. “holding the district election 0 20 October will not be possible,” he added.

According to him, one of the reasons for delaying the election is the lack of candidates in many districts.
“lack of candidates, insecurity in districts, the collapse of some districts, and the failure to perform some operational work are among the factors that made it impossible to hold the district elections. Only forty-two districts have candidates out of all districts,” he said.

It is the first time that district and the Wolesi Jirga elections were due to be held at the same time.
According to IEC, out of 364 districts, only 42 districts have a candidate in the country.
