Afghanistan’s Independent Election Commission (IEC) reacted against the decision taken by Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC), saying this is a politically-motivated decision and ECC has always wanted to sabotage the election process.
The IECC officials on Friday said during a press conference in Kabul declared all vote cast in Kabul consistency invalid, saying the decision was taken on the basis of the prevailing laws of the country following reports of widespread fraud and electoral crimes
The IECC also slapped 100,000 AFs cash fine on at least five members of the IEC over what it described as poor leadership and weakness by these officials in the electoral process.
On Friday night, the IEC rejected the decision.
“This decision was unrealistic and political,” said IEC commissioner Sayed Hafiz Hashemi.
“Invalidating all votes of Kabul means disregard and disrespect to the efforts and the sacrifices on the day of elections,” IEC chief Abdul Badi Sayyad said.
Yet, it is not clear what will be the fate of polls in Kabul constituency. According to some experts, the elections process will become critical.
