IEC Begins Recounting Kabul Votes after a Week

After a week, the process of recounting Kabul constituency votes have begun on Wednesday.

After a week, the process of recounting Kabul constituency votes have begun on Wednesday.
Earlier this week, the Afghan electoral complaints commission (ECC) declared Kabul constituency votes invalid, but later, the independent election commission (IEC) said the ECC’s decision is a politically-motivated and selective decision.

“Today, the process of recounting Kabul votes have begun after a week being halted, the observers of ECC are monitoring this process,” said Zabihullah Sadat, a spokesman for the IEC.
“the IEC has handed over the necessary documents to the ECC and to address the complaints and to complete the result of the Kabul polls,” he added.

The ECC declared Kabul constituency votes invalid earlier this week due to widespread frauds. Later, the commission agreed to review its decision on the condition that the documents would be handed over to them in order to differentiate the clean votes.
The IEC has announced the preliminary result of 25 provinces so far and 3 other provinces are expected to be announced soon.
