Afghan Defense Ministry Rejects Claim that Insurgents Control Half Territory

Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry Spokesman Najib Danish and the Defense Ministry spokesman Sayed Ghafoor Ahmad Jawid briefed reporters about the country’s security status and future plans during a press conference in Kabul.

Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry Spokesman Najib Danish and the Defense Ministry spokesman Sayed Ghafoor Ahmad Jawid briefed reporters about the country’s security status and future plans during a press conference in Kabul.
“the winter operations will kick off across the country in December,” the Interior Ministry’s spokesman Najib Danish said. “President Ghani has ordered security forces not to conduct airstrike or heavy operations in residential areas in order to prevent civilian casualties,” he added.

Addressing reporters about sexual abuse allegations at Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF), Mr Danish said: “a committee has been appointed to investigate the issue.”
The Interior Ministry spokesman further said that irresponsible armed groups will be arrested.

Defense Ministry’s spokesman Sayed Ghafoor Ahmad Jawid, meanwhile, rejected the claim that insurgents control half of the country’s territory.
“Elections were held in 341 districts of the country, and all provincial and district centers are in the hands of the government. The claims that half the country’s territory is controlled by Taliban is a rumor and not true,” he said.
Defense Ministry’s spokesman added that militants are using civilian houses as shields and that this leads to civilian casualties in many cases.
“Killing of key Taliban commander Abdul Manan will have a significant impact on insecurity in certain provinces,” Mr Jawid added.
