Afghan Government Not have Will to Hold Election

The operational deputy of the election commission Wasima Badghisi said there are no concerns over the future election if it delayed to the winter season.

The operational deputy of the election commission Wasima Badghisi said there are no concerns over the future election if it delayed to the winter season.
“The Wolesi Jirga and District Councils elections will be held on October and there are no concerns over the weather conditions and participation of voters in the provinces,” said Wasima Badghisi, the operational deputy to the election commission.

“Electoral observatories complain of the lack of government’s will to hold the elections and the inability of the Electoral Commission to launch this process,” she added.
The executive director of the Transparent Election Foundation of Afghanistan (TEFA) Naeem Ayubzada said, if the government decides and the international community honestly supports the elections, it will be held but the government still has no will to hold the elections.

Yousuf Rasheed, the executive director of the Free and Fair Election Forum of Afghanistan meanwhile said: “the election should not be postponed to November and December because the participation of the people has decreased in this process in the past due to the cold weather.”

The House of Representatives and District Councils elections was scheduled for July 2018, but this process delayed due to differences in the independent election commission, lack of funding and insecurity.
